Nora

Nora

Meet Nick C. (10 years old) and Nora Sue (9 years old)! These sweet angels are the newest additions to our sanctuary family. We were lucky to partner with Wabash County Animal Shelter, Inc. Wabash, Indiana again and give these 2 a new leash on life!

Their previous owner passed away and the family surrendered them to the shelter. Nick and Nora were at the shelter since the end of December with no interest from the general public. Nick seems to be going blind (his eyes are very cloudy) and he uses Nora to help guide him. They are both very sweet, are loving lap time/snuggles and are acclimating well with Buddy, Lucy and Pork Chop. There are a few grumbles here and there but nothing major. Even Bill has been hanging out with/near them already.

Nora’s face is healing from self inflicted puncture wounds. The shelter staff believe she tried to put her face in one of their fences. Their team did an excellent job taking care of her with several visits to their vet. She had stitches and drains in her face and was on several rounds of antibiotics. It’s definitely something we will be keeping a close eye on and getting her to see Dr. Watkins at VCA Companion Animal Medical Center to have it rechecked.

We absolutely love our friends at the shelter. They are all wonderful, kind people and do amazing work!

Update 2025-05-16: Friday was a really hard, sad day for us. We got Nora’s culture back on her wounds in her face. She was still positive for MRSA. She had been on some form of antibiotics (cream/oral/6 weeks of subq injections) since the end of December. The fact that it wasn’t going away meant there was something else going on with her immune system. Most likely cancer of some form. There was nothing else we could do for her. We had to say goodbye.

We are so honored and blessed to have had her in our sanctuary family for 3 months. We wish we could have had her longer. She was funny, full of energy, sweet and she never knew she was sick. Nora had had the cone on almost the entire time we had her. It never bothered her. She used it as a shovel in the backyard and bulldozed her way everywhere she went.

Stevie Nicks debuted her new song called “The Lighthouse” on @jimmykimmellive the day before the election. And while she wrote it as an anthem for women’s rights, we like the idea that we are like a lighthouse for our sanctuary animals. We shine a light for each of them providing them a path to safety, love and healing and ultimately safe passage into their next lives in heaven. We loved Nora Sue very much and tried our best to heal her. Thank you to Dr. Watkins @vcacompanion for everything you did and tried to make Nora well. Thank you to Dr. Wood and Kelsey for being so kind and gentle with Nora and for helping her pass peacefully. We miss you, Nora Sue. You were a very special girl who didn’t deserve to be sick.
