Meet Rennie, AKA Renegade! He’s the latest addition to our family! Rennie came to us on 2024-02-02 because his previous dad had serious housing issues and couldn’t take him to his new place. Rennie is a sweet, quiet, mild manned, 15 year old Beagle.
We took him to the vet for an exam, vaccines, blood work, heartworm test and to check his urine. We are still waiting on some of the results, but overall he looks good! He has been learning our routine all week and is catching on. Rennie, Pork Chop and Remy are getting along well. He’s been around cats previously and goes up to the gate to say “hi” to his new kitty brothers and sisters.
Thank you again to Scott Swan and everyone who donated through the WTHR-TV Sendthelove campaign. Because of your generosity, we were able to say “yes” to Rennie and take him to the vet! Another senior dog safe!
Update 2024-06-24: We have exciting news! Rennie went to a new foster home today. He is the only dog with 1 senior cat. The house is beautiful and has a large back yard on a wooded lot. Miss Roberta is an active senior willing to give Rennie a chance at his forever home. He was fast asleep snoring an hour after exploring his new home.
Update 2024-07-22: We got to visit Renegade today! He is doing great in his foster home. He loves being outside in his large yard. He’s so sweet! We love him so much and are so happy Ms. Roberta is giving him a great home! We are so thankful
Update 2026-06-19 We find ourselves, once again, trying to find the right words. We had to say goodbye to Sir Renegade (Rennie) on Friday. We often said he was a cat in his former life and had 29 lives. Rennie had heart issues, arthritis in his rear legs/hips/lower back and periodic seizures, but just kept fighting to live.
He was 17 1/2 years old. He made it that long because of the wonderful care his foster mom, (Roberta Rice Decker) gave him. She watched his every move. She tried and tried to get his medications in him using all kinds of different things. But, the stubborn, old, Beagle refused. Rennie was also very picky as to what he would eat. Roberta cooked him scrambled eggs, chicken, pork chops, etc., just to get him to eat.
Renegade lived his best life with his foster mom. We cannot say thank you enough to her! Renegade was sweet, gentle, and he had the softest fur on his head and ears. It was like cotton! He never met a stranger. Rennie did wonderful on visits to the senior communities. The highlight of his career was when we put him (at the staff members direction) on a bed bound ladies bed so she could pet him. All our other dogs loved him and most of all, his foster brother Kit.
We love you Renegade! You are missed so much. Run free!!!!
