Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin Spice

Meet Pumpkin Spice!!!!
Pumpkin is 15 years young and came to us from our friends at the Animal Shelter of Wabash County. We picked her up on 7/18.

This poor old girl was at the shelter for 4 months! Their team members told us the public would just walk by her cage and never look at her because of her age. That is heartbreaking!!

Pumpkin is shy but sweet and is taking time to warm up to us. She is not afraid of the other cats (prefers to stick to herself) or the dogs. Pumpkin likes to invite herself downstairs with the dogs by jumping/climbing our safety gates. Pumpkin is spayed and up to date on vaccines.

Update 2024.11.24: Animal rescue is full of highs and lows. One of the low points of our week was having to say goodbye to our sweet Pumpkin.

We got Pumpkin from our friends at Wabash County Animal Shelter, Inc. Wabash, Indiana in July of 2023. Pumpkin has been such a huge blessing to our sanctuary family. She was doing really great and we had no idea she was sick. Cats mask their illnesses so well until they can’t.

This week, she became disoriented and confused at times. She was weak and wobbly and having a hard time jumping up on her favorite spots. We gave her supportive care of sub q fluids and fed her with a syringe keeping our fingers crossed. But she continued to decline. Her lower jaw swelled overnight. We took Pumpkin to the vet and upon ultrasound, it was determined she had abdominal cancer and most likely cancer in her jaw.

We held her while she passed peacefully into heaven. We are crushed every single time we lose a family member. We love you Pumpkin! We miss you snuggling on our laps.

Thank you to Dr. Watkins, Deniese, Kara and Jennifer at VCA Companion Animal Medical Center for your compassion and kindness.
